Building link popularity is a great way to help your Chinese site gain competitive Baidu “PageRank (PR)”. Links from other Chinese sites also send direct visitors to your Chinese site. A little care in developing inbound links will go a long way in getting your Chinese site ranked high in Baidu.

Baidu “PageRank (PR)” is the similar of Google PageRank (PR), although Baidu have not obviously specify a word to indicate the inbound links, there is truly some value to calculate it, and we have to pay attention to the inbound links as we do SEO for Google.

Baidu “PR” of the linking Chinese page, one of the most important factors, determines how much valuable importance is passed on to your Chinese page. The higher the Baidu “PR” of the Chinese page linking to you, the higher the value you get. Each inbound link to your Chinese local site is also considered a vote.

Number of links on the linking Chinese page

The value your Chinese web page gets from a linking Chinese page is equal to the total Baidu “PR” value of that Chinese page divided by the total number of outgoing links on that page.

Industry relevance

Baidu gives higher importance to links pointing to your Chinese site from your own industry segment as opposed to those from unrelated industries.

Page relevance

Most sites offering links have several Chinese categories listed on their Chinese sites. Try to get a link from a Chinese category that closely matches your own industry.

Anchor Text

Anchor Text is the visible hyperlinked text on a web page. Since anchor text is very important, make sure that your most important Chinese keywords appear in the anchor text from the link pointing to your local site. It tells Baidu what the Chinese page is about. Used wisely, it boosts your Baidu rankings.

If you use "点击这里(click here)" as the words people are going to click on, you're telling people the Chinese page is about the subject "点击这里". If you use "第二部分(Part 2)" as the anchor text, you are telling Baidu the Chinese page is discussing "第二部分". You wouldn't want to rank highly for "点击这里" or "第二部分" which has nothing with your business. However, if your Chinese local site is all about “房屋装修(decorate or fit up the house)”, you don't want only "房屋装修" to be used as the phrase in every link to your Chinese site. Over-optimizing like that would also create an unnatural pattern.

Remember that real live Chinese will read your links as well as Baidu spider, so the Chinese words in your anchor text need to make sense!

Dynamic link Chinese pages

You should also watch out for any link Chinese pages that are generated dynamically. Chances are that such pages would not get indexed soon enough, which means that a link from such a Chinese page would not benefit you. Some dynamic link Chinese pages are intentionally generated in such a way so as to prevent them from getting indexed. Some unscrupulous webmasters do this to trick you to prevent any Baidu “PR” leaking from their Chinese site to yours. Links from such Chinese pages therefore do not give you any benefit.

Javascript link pages

Baidu cannot read Flash pages within Chinese nor can it read the links embedded Chinese within Flash.

Redirected links

A link that is first redirected to another Chinese page within your partner site before pointing to your site is a redirected link. Baidu does not give weight to redirected links. It is very unlikely that your Chinese local site would draw any benefit from a redirected link.

Framed Chinese sites

Avoid getting links from framed Chinese sites as Baidu cannot read Chinese texts within frames.
